Meow Recommendations
If you know me, you know I'm a sucker for a beautiful book cover. And, if you want to send me to book euphoria put a cat on there to, internally squealing. A cover that's beautifully illustrated or designed plus a kitty cat that's what I call book cover PURFECTION (pun intended). So, if you are like me and on the cat bandwagon, here's a list of book recommendations that feature a cat as a side character or displayed somewhere on the cover.
We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby
- Genre: Non-fiction Essays
- Publisher: Penguin Random House- Vintage Press
Synopsis: Whether Samantha Irby is talking about how her difficult childhood has led to a problem in making “adult” budgets; explaining why she should be the new Bachelorette (she's "35-ish, but could easily pass for 60-something"); detailing a disastrous pilgrimage-slash-romantic-vacation to Nashville to scatter her estranged father's ashes; sharing awkward sexual encounters; or dispensing advice on how to navigate friendships with former drinking buddies who are now suburban moms (hang in there for the Costco loot!); she’s as deft at poking fun at the ghosts of her past self as she is at capturing powerful emotional truths.
🐈 no funny essays about the cat it's just on the cover (womp, womp).
Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
- Genre: Romance
- Publisher: Avon Books
Synopsis: Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family’s mansion. The next items?
- Enjoy a drunken night out.
- Ride a motorcycle.
- Go camping.
- Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
- Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
- And... do something bad.
But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job.
Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit.
But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior.
🐈 Chloe rescued the cat and eventually adopted it because she was attached by the time she found the owner.
A Deadly Scoop by Abby Collette
- Genre: Mystery
- Publisher: Berkley
Synopsis: Recent MBA grad Bronwyn Crewse has just taken over her family's ice cream shop in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and she's going back to basics. Win is renovating Crewse Creamery to restore its former glory, and filling the menu with delicious, homemade ice cream flavors—many from her grandmother’s original recipes. But unexpected construction delays mean she misses the summer season, and the shop has a literal cold opening: the day she opens her doors an early first snow descends on the village and keeps the customers away.
To make matters worse, that evening, Win finds a body in the snow, and it turns out the dead man was a grifter with an old feud with the Crewse family. Soon, Win’s father is implicated in his death. It's not easy to juggle a new-to-her business while solving a crime, but Win is determined to do it. With the help of her quirky best friends and her tight-knit family, she'll catch the ice cold killer before she has a meltdown.
🐈 honestly I don't remember if the cat came up in this mystery but there's a cat on the cover (front and back 😍).
